It's mind boggling, how many "Sources" on and off the Internet, will tell you DO NOT clean windows in the direct sun; wait for a cloudy day or you'll end up with streaks!
...Hog Wash!
If your schedule allows, and you can wait for a cloudy day to clean your windows, by-all-means wait to clean your windows.
Because if you have limited window cleaning skills, your windows will clean better on a cloudy day.
But if you really want to develop your skills, or want to start a window cleaning business ...
...Window cleaning in the direct sun, when the glass is hot and your solution is evaporating fast on glass, is the best time to sharpen your window washing skills!
Let's face the facts, if you're going to be cleaning windows for a living, you'll have to learn how to create streak free results for your customers... And, in many cases, you'll have to clean windows in the direct sunlight.
So, here's some...
1) Start by adding a window cleaning soap to your bucket of water that's designed to slow water evaporation. Titan's Glass Gleem 4 is such a product. As well, you might consider adding a little "friction reducer" to you water, like Sorbo's Glide.
These additives will help, along with using cool water, to prolong the evaporation process... Which is necessary to help reduce streaks on glass. Remember, as soon as your solution dries on glass, you'll be left with streaks, so the next step is to...
2) Use the Super Swirl squeegee technique to dry glass immediately after you've finished scrubbing window with strip washer and solution. If glass still dries before you have the chance to clear window with squeegee, you'll want to advance your techniques using the...
3) Squeegee follows strip washer, "two handed window cleaning technique". (As Shown In Picture Above).
This is the same technique you might have seen at the speed window cleaning competitions held in the USA and the UK. The technique involves following closely behind the strip washer with the squeegee...
... The squeegee is drying glass in one hand and the strip washer is wetting glass in the other. The squeegee must overlap the wet line produced by the strip washer using the Super Swirl or other window cleaning technique... Like the Ginsu method.
4) When squeegeeing glass, you'll want to feel as though you are gliding over glass, you'll want to feel the squeegee "floating" water down the window surface.
To understand what I mean by floating, try applying just enough pressure to squeegee rubber's edge to effectively remove the water... Without letting water pass underneath rubber, which will leave a streak. And try not to add too much pressure to rubber because , this will cause squeegee drag due to too much friction.
Most beginning window cleaners apply too much pressure to squeegee's rubber edge which also allows water to pass underneath squeegee because it over-flattens the rubber. A flattened, squashed rubber edge will leave "haze" on glass.
You'll notice this by keeping your line-of-sight behind squeegee. You'll notice the glass will still have a slightly wet look followed by a delayed drying. The delayed drying, will cause a haze on glass, especially if your water is dirty or you've added too much soap to your water.
So, try adding just enough pressure to squeegee rubber edge to float water off glass...
...Especially when cleaning windows in the direct sun, where you'll need to be lighter than normal on rubber edge to reduce the chance of leaving haze on glass.
Finding the right squeegee pressure will not only produce better window cleaning results but will greatly reduce wrist, finger and arm fatigue due to holding and pressuring squeegee too tightly.
I know all of the techniques I've described are difficult to understand by reading this article, that's why I urge you to see them on video. If you'd like to learn how to clean windows through my beginning to advanced window cleaning video lessons.
